What to Wear to Work | Pencil Skirt + Blazer

Black pencil skirt_Grey Blazer_1

It's Monday morning and I can't figure out what to wear, not to mention I don't feel like fixing my hair. For those of mornings, this is what I wear to work -- pencil skirt, blazer, cami and  my hair is a loose bun. It seems a little dressed up for a Monday, but it's the best way for me to jump into work.

If you're going to get overdressed during the workwear, do it on a Monday. While your colleagues may be feeling the hangover from the weekend, get dressed up and put a big smile on your face. You're guaranteed to have a productive start to the week.

This outfit might look familiar, last year I wore something similar here. As you can see, it's easy to transition your work pieces to an evening outfit. Blazers are my favorite accessories and I love wearing them out in the city, if blazers are not your style for an evening look, switch out the blazer for a cropped leather jacket (similar to these looks here, here & more casual here).

Beauty | SASSOON Hair Revival

Black and white stripes_Ann Taylor Skirt_7

For anyone who's been following my blog the last few years has witnessed my hair change from good, bad to indifferent. I'll be the first to admit that I've had some interesting phases in my hair journey. Check out this post from September 2013, when I first colored my hair. After having long brown hair for my entire life, I decided I needed a change. Something to brighten up my look. Over the last three years, I'v enjoyed trying out trends like ombre, biolage and normal highlights.

As you know, constant coloring takes a toll on your hair and can leave your hair with dull and sometimes "flat". I was thrilled when the SASSOON team reached out to partner on a hair revival for 2016!

I headed to the New York Downtown SASSOON Salon location for my first appointment with Creative Director, Michael Forrey. When I met Michael and his team, we sat down and talked about my hair - my previous experiences, my goals and the current products I use. My number one goals was to restore my long locks, so Michael recommended the Instant Fusio Dose Treatment By Kerastase. As a longtime customer of Kerastase, I was happy to try out the treatment.  The treatment boosts the vibrancy of your hair color and prevents future damage by soothing and strengthing each strand. This treatment, along with regular trims will get me back on track to healthier hair.

In between appointments I also use the KÉRASTASE ELIXIR ULTIME MASQUE. Here's a post from a few years ago that shows a before and after of my hair using the masque. For anyone wanting to know about my daily hair routine, check it out here...along with a throwback video. Not much has changed with my hair routine, I still use the same products and same system.

Enjoy your weekend!

What to Wear to Work | Black Culottes

BW_0007

This peplum blazer is a piece that I often wear to work, especially in the spring. Although I typically reach for a more traditional blazer, this cropped piece adds a good balance of style and professionalism to my look. With warmer weather in sight, jumpsuits will be popping up everywhere (here's my favorite jumpsuit from a few years ago).  Ladies, don't be scared of the jumpsuit! Here are a few of my favorite that could potentially translate from work to play.

A good way to incorporate a jumpsuit into your daily work outfits is to throw on a blazer or try adding a white button down shirt under the jumpsuit. Since the black jumpsuit I'm wearing in today's post is strapless, it's more appropriate to add a blazer that covers most of my chest area. If you work in a more casual work environment, try adding a blazer to your jumpsuit and for the corporate women, try adding a white button down shirt and a blazer. This will add layers for the colder days in the office, but also give you a structured look that would otherwise be a too casual for the workplace.

Instead of wearing this look with my standard work bag, I threw on my mini bag to represent how a simple work look can be worn after hours and still look polished and flirty.
